In the middle of the Saskatchewan prairie, you will find yourself dropping into the largest glacier-created valley in the province. This valley hides one of the most Epic mountain biking destinations in the province, and host of 2 Canada Cup events in 2000 and 2002. Sask Cup racing has not returned to this valley for many years, but now, the time has come. Rediscover the passion of racing at Buffalo Pound, as the crown at the end of the Sask Cup season. Will you become the provincial mountain bike champion for your category? On August 19th, we will find out.
The Venue and Race Course
The race course is located in Buffalo Pound Provincial Park just north of Moose Jaw, SK. The race location is at the White Track Ski area inside the park.
This race course has a mix of everything including open flats, wooded downhills and climbs, as well as tricky technical sections. One lap of the course is 6km and will be a unique race track that will be just a part of the final XC8 course for that event that runs 3 weeks later.
Race Categories
No matter if you are a beginner who has never raced a mountain bike event before, or an elite series racer who has been racing for years, the Wascana Challenge is an event you will not want to miss.
There is a category for everyone, and you are free to choose any lap category you want. Your race category will include people of all ages and skill, combined to race the same distance as you. Each lap is approximately 8km of challenging race course, so choose wisely. If you are curious about ballpark finish times, check the results from previous years.
1 Lap is the beginner category and is perfect for anyone who is new to racing or unsure of a category. The race is short and you will have more than enough time to complete your race.
2 Laps is a race category that attracts riders of many different skill levels. Most of the participants enjoy mountain biking often during the season.
3 Laps is raced mostly by active athletes who train during the season.
4 Laps is the second highest category of racing we have to offer and is chosen by serious racers who haven't moved up to the top level.
5 Laps is the highest level of racing and participants are highly experienced racers including some of the best in Saskatchewan and Canada.
